UAE’s Emirates Drug Establishment approves Foundayo for type 2 diabetes

Reported: 6 November 2026

New indication makes UAE a third country to authorise Foundayo use

6 November 2026 , The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has approved a new therapeutic indication for Foundayo (orforglipron), developed by Eli Lilly, for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes.

Emirates247 reports that the approval aligns with EDE’s strategy to strengthen a “proactive” pharmaceutical regulatory system focused on quality, safety and efficacy, and said it supports wider access to innovative treatments.

According to the report, the UAE had previously approved Foundayo for weight management in April. The newly approved use is described as an oral, once-daily option intended to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes, alongside long-term weight management as part of a physician-supervised plan.

The report also notes that EDE emphasised the importance of understanding risk factors for diabetes, undergoing regular screening for early detection, and maintaining consistent medical follow-up to manage chronic disease and reduce the risk of complications.
