New abra upgrades for safer, smarter marine rides

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) says it has expanded Dubai’s marine transport fleet by adding four new fourth-generation heritage abras.

RTA says the boats meet the latest technical specifications and approved standards, with each abra designed to carry 24 passengers. The authority also says the design complies with the Dubai Design Code’s health and safety requirements.

Officials say the update includes service enhancements aimed at a more comfortable and inclusive passenger experience, including redesigned seating and flooring as well as dedicated areas for people of determination.

The RTA also highlights “smart systems” installed on the new abras, including digital screens with real-time information and safety messages. It adds that electronic destination boards have been introduced on this type of abra for clearer operational details and improved efficiency.

The RTA positions the marine fleet expansion as part of efforts to strengthen integrated public transport and support Dubai’s smart mobility goals, particularly for residents and visitors using maritime routes.
