Reported: 7 November 2026
The UAE says it is expanding its science and advanced technology ecosystem through international partnerships, talent programmes and applied research linked to strategic industries.
In a 2026 update reported by Emirates247, the government highlights steps including joining the Svalbard Treaty, enabling UAE scientists to conduct field research in Ny-Ålesund with researchers from multiple countries. The report also says the UAE joined the International Science Council (ISC), naming the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) as the country’s representative.
Centres and programmes tied to strategic sectors
Officials point to initiatives announced around the World Economic Forum in Davos, including Abu Dhabi-focused technology centres and a partnership described as aimed at accelerating adoption of advanced technologies across government and society.
The update also references space and biotech collaboration, including partnerships involving universities and companies in areas such as satellite research and an organic-waste valorisation pilot project intended to convert organic waste into resources such as biogas and compost.
