Dubai schools roll out ‘fog timing’ procedures for safer commutes

Reported: 5 November 2026

Seven steps aim to reduce risks when visibility drops

Report date: 5 November 2026. Government and private school administrations across Dubai have activated “fog timing” procedures and shared seven guidelines with parents and students to manage school transport during low-visibility winter conditions.

The measures, described as proactive and designed around safety, include guidance for families to keep students at home when buses are affected by fog, and for school transport to pause at designated stations when visibility deteriorates.

Schools say bus trips should resume as soon as weather conditions improve, but arrival times cannot always be predicted precisely. Parents are asked to monitor updates through school channels or bus supervisors rather than contacting drivers while vehicles are travelling.

Administrations also stress the importance of supervision if children arrive early in private vehicles, and they set out how fog-related delays can be handled in relation to classes and attendance, including flexibility in managing absences through the relevant school process and approved platforms.

The guidance is framed as field-flexibility for school hours and transport schedules, taking into account varying visibility levels, potential delays and the effect of conditions on teaching staff.
